Real Estate Article:  Environmental Inspections

When you purchase a home, most sales contracts give you the right to have a variety of inspections done on your home, including environmental inspections.

The most common environmental inspections are "termite" inspections and lead based paint inspections.  There are also other issues that are of concern to many home buyers, including:

Radon

Radon is an odorless gas that occurs naturally in many areas of the country and heavy exposure could cause cancer.  This used to be of no concern to buyers, but modern homes are sealed so tightly for energy conservation that radon can get trapped inside of homes.  Unfortunately, there is no way to know if a particular home contains high levels of radon without proper testing.  But if radon is found in a home, it can be taken care of professionally.

Meth Lab or other drug exposure

This is a problem in all areas of the country.  If you are worried about this, you can have the home inspected.

Mold

Although mold in everywhere, a large concentration of mold in a home can be a health danger to some people.  Linda understands this concern because she is one of those people.

There are probably many other environmental concerns that individual buyers may have and others that will come up in the future.  If you have any questions about any inspection you may be thinking of having, just ask Linda about it.  She'll make the calls and find an inspector who is knowledgeable to give you the information you need.
