There has been a lot of talk nationally about the number of homes are being foreclosed on and how easy it is to find great bargains.  

Luckily for homeowners in St. Charles County, there are not as many foreclosure homes here.  But they can be found here.  

Here are some hints:  

  • Most on-line sites do not have up to date information on foreclosure homes.  

  • Although some foreclosure homes are good buys, many aren’t.  But homes that are not yet foreclosed on (pre-foreclosures) can be purchased at a great price if you have patience…and the lender agrees to a “short sale”.  

  • Finding foreclosure homes can take some detective work.  

  • It can take some time before a home that has been sold on the courthouse steps and the time the lender can put the home on the market.  

  • You may think you can call the lender who held the loan and buy a foreclosure home before someone else does.  Unfortunately, it rarely works.  

  • Most foreclosure homes are listed in the area MLS once they are ready to sell.
