Real Estate Article: Mold Information

Mold is currently a "hot button" issue in real estate.  But to many people, mold is more that just "an issue" or "a concern".  There are people, like Linda, who have an extreme allergic reaction to mold.

Unfortunately, mold is found every where, both indoors and out.  There are many different varieties of mold.  Mold needs moisture to grow, but it doesn't have to be water.  All it needs is high humidity levels.  That's why bathrooms are places where mold can easily grow.  But it's also what makes the St. Louis area the "mold capital" (according to Linda's doctor many years ago).

For home buyers:  When you are ready to buy a home, look it over well for moist areas that might harbor mold.  If you are one of those people with extreme reactions, you should consider having the home you want to buy inspected for mold.

For home owners:  Keep on the alert for mold and get it under control before it becomes a problem.  If you have moist areas in your home, get the source of the moisture stopped.  If you ever find mold on your walls, get it treated before it gets to the stage where all the drywall has to be removed.

For home sellers:  Follow the information for homeowners above while getting your home ready to sell.  If you have any concerns yourself, you may want to have your home pre-inspected for mold, so you can get rid of the problem before any buyers look at your home.
